RIGA (LATVIA), Sept 13 (Bernama) -- The unique taste of the aromatic traditional Kurma Daging from Perlis has received praise from the Executive Chef of Pullman Hotel, here in Latvia.

Chef Arnicāns Artūrs, who is also the President of the Latvian Chefs Association, said the dish is rich in aromas from the combination of various spices.

“I truly enjoy Perlis Kurma Daging as it has a blend of spices that can enhance the aroma of the traditional cuisine,” he told Bernama today at the Perlis Food Promotion in conjunction with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) 17th Jelajah Ilmu (Knowledge Tour) to Latvia and Estonia, from Sept 10 to 17.

The tour is led by the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also UniMAP Chancellor. He is accompanied by Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is UniMAP pro-chancellor, and their son, Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra.

Also in attendance at the event was UniMAP vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli.

Arnicāns, who is also the President of the Latvian Chefs Association, said he was impressed by the diligence shown by the UniMAP students in preparing the Perlis dishes, including Laksa Perlis, Pulut Mempelam , and various traditional cakes for the event.

Meanwhile, the Raja Muda encouraged UniMAP students to excel in their specialised fields and develop confidence in entrepreneurship after graduating.

“It is hoped that they would not only excel in their knowledge and skills related to their courses but also demonstrate exceptional proficiency in communication and ICT skills, along with displaying unmatched professionalism and patriotism,” he said.

While most of UniMAP's engineering programmes are focused on electronics, both fundamental and applied research in other engineering and technology fields that support engineering advancement are also actively conducted here, said Tuanku Syed Faizuddin.

“This Perlis Food Promotion undertaken by UniMAP is its small contribution to boost the campaign for the Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025 at the global stage,” he said.

Earlier, the Raja Muda cum Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) president also visited the Riga Islamic Centre, during which he also reminded the Muslim community to always practice the five pillars of Islam in their lives to demonstrate obedience to Allah and enhance piety.

“Islam outlines several principles and guidelines for its followers to lead their lives and emphasises the Oneness of Allah, acknowledging that there is no God but Allah

“Islam also establishes a moral and ethical foundation to guide us in discerning right from wrong and in conducting ourselves in our interactions with fellow human beings,” he said.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin also presented a personal contribution to the Riga Islamic Centre officer Sultan Ahmad Mohd Ow.

Riga, the capital of Latvia, lies at the mouth of the Daugava River.

The city serves as the cultural, political, business, financial, industrial and educational hub of the region and is recognised as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) World Heritage Site.
