KANGAR: The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail today (December 15) said that the people must always be equipped and prepared with knowledge and training to face future challenges, including threats to the country.

He said as a sovereign and independent nation, the responsibility to defend the homeland lies on the shoulders of all Malaysians.

"Let us not take a lax attitude on national security matters as any neglect could have detrimental consequences," Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said in a statement today (December 15) which quoted the Raja Muda after he had graced a shooting event organised by the Army's 30th Infantry Brigade at the Royal Ranger Regiment, Bukit Cowder Camp in Mata Ayer, here recently.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, who is also the president of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, also welcomed new postgraduate students who have enrolled at the Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) campus in Padang Besar.

UMAM is currently accepting students for five Ph.D. programmes, namely in Information Technology, Islamic Studies, Education, Business Management and Philosophy in Social Sciences.

The statement stated that UMAM is the first campus of Universitas Muhammadiyah operating outside Indonesia, the result of a strategic collaboration between MAIPs and the Muhammadiyah central leadership in Indonesia.
