SANDAKAN – Perlis Crown Prince Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail’s donation in Tawau seven years ago has benefited over 30,000 babies in the district.
Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah president Tan Sri Liew Yun Fah said that the crown prince had made a visit to Tawau Hospital in 2017 and donated two units of otoacoustic emission machines.
Liew said he was made to understand that the machine has had a positive impact on the people not only from Tawau, but the surrounding districts on Sabah’s east coast – Semporna, Kunak, and Lahad Datu.
“According to the record, up until 2023, the machines had benefited 30,774 babies in Tawau Hospital.
“I humbly thank the Crown Prince for his donation, which was badly needed by the people here,” Liew said in a statement today after he accompanied the crown prince on his visit to the Tawau Hospital.
Liew added that without the machine, infants who require the machine for the screening process would have to be sent to Kota Kinabalu, which is about a 10-hour drive away from Tawau.
The otoacoustic emission machine is used during a newborn’s hearing screening programme, as well as for patients with suspected hearing loss who cannot tolerate or complete conventional hearing tests. – March 16, 2024
